Overview
FY26: Paraeducator Level II, Special Education Itinerant, Shady Grove MS, 4HRS/10MOS. Position supports students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP) under the direction of the principal. The paraeducator may participate with students in learning activities off school grounds and provide academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical support to help students access the curriculum. The work may involve general education classes and/or specialized instructional settings, with possible pull-out for individualized or small group reinforcement. All new paraeducators start at grade 15 with the opportunity to promote to grade 16 after six months of probation and required training hours. Responsibilities
Provide instructional and classroom management supports to teachers and other professional staff in all classrooms or learning environments. Assist students with various needs related to academics, behavior, social-emotional development, and physical support as required by IEPs. Facilitate student mastery of grade-level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards and help manage behaviors that impact access to instruction. Support students who participate in general education classes and/or specialized instructional settings, including pull-out sessions for individualized or small-group reinforcement. Complete related clerical tasks and assist with implementation of the instructional program as needed. Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience (in order of preference): 1) Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred, with at least nine credit-hours in education-related coursework; one year of related experience preferred. 2) At least 48 college credits and two years of experience in a structured educational or related setting. 3) Two years of experience in a structured setting or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score (455 or higher). 4) Any combination of applicable education, training, and experience that enables the knowledge, abilities, and skills to perform effectively. CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies and policies; ability to implement instruction, monitor and support appropriate student behavior; effective written and verbal communication; fluency in English; ability to work with students with special needs; proficiency with Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based tools; capacity to learn SSPGS core competencies.
