Position Description: Student Minister (Full-Time)
Reports to: Family Minister
Status: Full-Time, Salaried
Purpose:
To lead a Christ-centered, discipleship-driven ministry for middle and
high school students, helping them know Jesus personally, grow in
their faith, and live as disciple-makers in their schools, homes, and
beyond.
Core Calling: Discipleship First
This role exists to make disciples who make disciples. Programs and
events are tools—but the heart of the Student Minister must beat for
intentional, relational, reproducible discipleship. This means knowing
students by name, walking with them in their spiritual formation, and
equipping leaders to do the same.
Key Responsibilities:
Relational Discipleship
Cultivate a ministry culture where students are known, challenged,
and led to deeper faith in Jesus.
Build and maintain a leadership team of adults who actively disciple students.
Personally disciple a few students and adult leaders with
intentionality and consistency.
Integrate students into the larger church body and help them see
themselves as contributors, not consumers.
Teaching & Programming
Plan and lead weekly student gatherings (midweek and Sunday) that
emphasize Scripture, worship, prayer, and community.
Prepare and deliver biblically sound, culturally aware teaching that
points students to Jesus.
Ensure all content and teaching align with Canoe Creek’s theology
and discipleship values.
Parent Partnership
Communicate regularly with parents and involve them as partners in
spiritual formation.
Equip and encourage parents to take an active role as the primary
spiritual influencers in their student’s life.
Events & Experiences
Plan and lead retreats, mission trips, and outreach events that
align with the overall discipleship strategy.
Ensure all experiences are well-organized, safe, and spiritually
meaningful—not just “fun events”.
Leadership & Administration
Recruit, train, and support a team of adult and student leaders.
Oversee scheduling, communications, and logistics for all student
ministry activities.
Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all students.
Team Collaboration
Work under the direction of the Family Minister to ensure alignment
with broader Family Ministry strategy.
Collaborate with the Children’s Minister to ensure smooth
transitions into and out of Student Ministry.
Participate in all-staff meetings and contribute to church-wide
initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
A growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Demonstrated passion and gifting for discipling students.
At least 2 years of experience in student ministry or a related
setting (preferred).
Strong communicator—both from stage and in one-on-one discipleship.
Humble, relational, organized, and team-oriented.
Agreement with Canoe Creek’s doctrine, mission, and values.
This job description is not meant to be an all-inclusive statement of
every duty and responsibility that will be required of an employee in
this position. Therefore, additional duties may be assigned.
