Patient Access & Enrollment Specialist , where you'll play a vital role in improving healthcare access for underserved populations.
In this impactful position, you’ll engage directly with patients and community members to provide education and assistance with health insurance enrollment (Medi-Cal and Covered California) and other healthcare assistance programs. Your work will help individuals and families gain access to essential services including primary care, dental, vision, and behavioral health.
Key Responsibilities
Build meaningful relationships with patients to understand their financial situations and guide them through available healthcare options.
Conduct targeted outreach and educational activities to raise awareness about insurance coverage and enrollment processes.
Assist patients in navigating electronic portals and applying for programs such as Medi-Cal, Presumptive Medi-Cal, FPACT, EWC, CDP, Healthy Families, and Covered California.
Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to ensure seamless coordination of care and insurance continuity.
Support patients in resolving billing issues, setting up payment plans, and understanding their coverage.
Maintain accurate records of patient interactions, applications, and follow-ups.
Submit monthly reports and data to leadership to track outreach and enrollment efforts.
Schedule Monday through Friday (Day Shift)
Required Skills & Qualifications
Customer Service Excellence: Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate approach to patient care.
Healthcare Knowledge: Familiarity with health insurance plans, benefits verification, and eligibility requirements.
Technical Proficiency: Experience with data entry and navigating electronic health records (NextGen preferred).
Language Skills: Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred but not required.
Driving Requirements: Valid California driver’s license and a clean DMV record.
Experience & Education
Minimum of 2 years experience in a medical business office, billing, coding, or patient services within a healthcare setting (FQHC, hospital, clinic, etc.).
Bachelor’s degree preferred; alternatively, 2–5 years of relevant experience in healthcare or social services.
Must obtain Certified Enrollment Counselor (CEC) certification within 90 days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
