Overview
Baltimore Emerging Scholars Instructor (CTY) – Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). CTY is seeking a Baltimore Emerging Scholars instructor to teach an enrichment program for Baltimore City Schools’ pre-college students who show high academic potential. The 25-week enrichment course is designed to test students’ critical thinking skills and to further their academic interests through inquiry-based activities. The program runs from October through May for students in grades 1–5 at Commodore John Rodgers, Francis Scott Key, and Highlandtown #215. Instructors plan and conduct classes within CTY guidelines and monitor and evaluate each student’s progress. Instructors’ hours align with the assigned school schedule and include additional program planning, preparation, training, professional development, and team meetings. Instruction is in person at the designated school in Baltimore, Maryland. Each class session is approximately 60 minutes, with either 3 classes per week or 2 classes per week. Instructors report to the CTY Assistant Program Manager. Responsibilities
Use the provided CTY curriculum and instructional materials to develop daily objectives and lessons. Monitor students' academic progress toward stated objectives of instruction. Effectively communicate progress with program leadership. Provide meaningful and detailed feedback on assignments in a timely manner. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a positive classroom environment conducive to learning. Evaluate curriculum effectiveness and assist in refining the curriculum to enhance student performance. Aid in the facilitation of CTY research efforts as related to the CTY Emerging Scholars program. Maintain productive relationships through communication with students, parents/guardians, program leadership, and school staff. Escalate any concerns to leadership. Additional duties include working as a team member to provide support to other instructors. Additional Information
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must be able to report to their assigned school in Baltimore, Maryland, during the CTY-BES approved dates and times. All employees participating in or serving children in University programs must participate in mandatory Child Abuse Prevention online training on the appropriate conduct around children, protecting children from abuse and neglect, and reporting of known or suspected child abuse and neglect. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in a content-related field. Five years teaching experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
