Assistant Professor – Plant Biology – Lehman College, CUNY
Lehman College, a Hispanic‑Serving Institution in the Bronx of the City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank starting September 2026. The role seeks an outstanding scientist with a strong publication record, postdoctoral experience, and significant research experience in plant biology.
Responsibilities
Build an active, collaborative, externally funded research program in plant biology.
Participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching, mentoring, and research training.
Provide service to the department, university, and scientific community.
Collaborate with ongoing plant‑related research at Lehman, the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG), and the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC).
Qualifications
PhD in Plant Biology or a related field and postdoctoral training.
Strong publication record and evidence of teaching and communication effectiveness.
Preferred: impressive grant record, innovative research, and commitment to teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Experience in biochemistry, synthetic biology, computational biology, developmental biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or plant‑organismic interactions.
Legal eligibility to work in the United States (no sponsorship will be offered).
Compensation and Benefits 9‑month, full‑time appointment: $109,025. Faculty may be eligible for summer salary as additional compensation. CUNY offers a competitive benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
