Assistant or Associate Professor - Philosophy
Faculty vacancy at Lehman College, City University of New York. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position, beginning in the fall of 2026. The department seeks candidates with specializations in Philosophy of Technology and AI, or Business Ethics (broadly construed). The successful candidate will also be expected to teach lower‑level service courses such as Critical Reasoning, Logic, Contemporary Moral Issues, Justice and Society, or Problems of Philosophy, and to be committed to exploring innovative pedagogical techniques to promote student success.
Teaching load: 18 credit hours (6 courses) per year; may be taught in person or online, depending on the Department’s needs. For tenure‑track faculty the teaching commitment is reduced by six courses over the first five years to assist with research. Tenured faculty may also receive teaching releases to assist with research. All faculty are eligible to apply for competitive internal Lehman College and CUNY grants to support their research. Service is required for tenure and/or promotion, and the candidate will be expected to engage in significant service activities at the departmental, college, university, professional and/or community levels, commensurate with rank.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in philosophy by the start date of the position (August 25, 2026). Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States and sponsorship will not be offered. The AOC is open, but the Department has teaching needs in philosophy of mind, epistemology, philosophy of education, philosophy of gender, environmental philosophy, and ancient and medieval philosophy.
Compensation: Assistant Professor salary $90,838–$102,017; Associate Professor salary $109,898–$121,194. CUNY offers a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
