Overview
Senior Financial Accountant – Full‑time, GA – UGA Athens. Exempt position focused on GAAP reporting, GASB 87/96, capital asset, and process improvement.
Department & Site
Accounting Division, General Accounting Department, Athens, GA – 65 miles NE of Atlanta.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare/ review financial reports for GASB 87 Leased Assets, GASB 96 SBITA’s, and Departmental Sales and Services billing rates; conduct monthly anomaly testing. Assist with fiscal year‑end closeout, journal entry preparation, and GAAP disclosures. Perform reconciliations of university financial information and general ledger journals. Lead process‑improvement initiatives using Smartsheet and other BI tools; maintain Smartsheet forms. Assist Asset Management team with capital asset accounting, reviewing FMD and OUA capital expense activity. Cross‑train with other Accounting staff for reconciliation processes. Other duties as assigned throughout the year.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent, and 5 years of professional experience. Knowledge of governmental accounting standards and GAAP. Experience with Excel and financial systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with GASB 87/96 reporting and capital asset accounting. Proficiency in Smartsheet and business intelligence tools. Ability to drive process improvement initiatives.
Benefits & Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience; benefits eligible; retirement plan – TRS or ORP; full‑time schedule Monday‑Friday 8:00am‑5:00pm; location – Athens Area.
