Introduction
An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join Adapt IT as a Senior Accountant in the Education division. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role is responsible for financial reporting, budget planning, forecasting, financial controls, and compliance, ensuring strategic financial alignment with business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in financial management, strong analytical skills, and experience in leading finance processes within a fast-paced, dynamic environment. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ROLE Revenue Management
Approve revenue invoices in compliance with IFRS 15. Track and forecast revenue in collaboration with the Business Development team and Business Units. Prepare and review revenue budgets. Oversee client annual maintenance contracts and ensure correct revenue recognition. Manage annuity revenue streams with accurate forecasting and reconciliation. Ensure revenue controls are documented, executed, and monitored effectively. Perform deferred revenue reconciliation and WIP reconciliation to maintain accuracy. Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
Prepare month-end reports, ensuring all financial data is accurate and complete. Prepare board comments on actuals vs. forecast, highlighting key variances and business insights. Conduct GL reviews on Sage, identifying and addressing variances against the Trial Balance (TB) before submission to the Board. Prepare inter-company disclosures for board reporting, ensuring transparency in financial statements. Business Unit (BU) & Project Reporting
Prepare BU reporting templates and analyse financial performance. Review financial results for accuracy and completeness. Adjust budgets and actuals for BU structural changes (payroll movements, cost allocations, etc.). Conduct financial performance meetings with BU owners/managers. Provide project profitability reporting, working closely with the Project Accountant. Budgeting, Forecasting & Group Reporting
Full financial oversight for Education Division operations in SA, including associated Pty businesses ADA7 & Strive Soft. Prepare and submit budgeting & forecasting reports for the above entities. Submit financial workbooks to Group Finance as per corporate deadlines. Conduct quarterly reviews of overhead forecasts and recommend adjustments. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
Prepare Annual Financial Statements (AFS) for the statutory entity. Review and approve VAT 201 submissions for compliance. Ensure adherence to SARS, IFRS, Income Tax Act, and VAT Act regulations. Accounts Receivable & Debtors Management
Manage the Debtors Clerk, ensuring prompt collections and addressing 90 day aged debtors. Implement strategies to improve debtor days and enhance cash collections. Regularly review debtors aging reports and ensure escalation of overdue accounts. Administrative & Financial Controls
Manage administrators, conducting weekly meetings and tracking the OPEN & Billings sheets. Approve Purchase Requisitions (PRs) in alignment with budget constraints. Review and approve cash flow forecasts to ensure liquidity planning. Oversee and approve Accountant journal entries (JNLs) to ensure accurate posting. Prepare and submit monthly reconciliations on a timely basis to maintain financial accuracy. Identify and implement financial control improvements to mitigate risks. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Honors degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent. CA(SA) or CIMA advantageous. 3 years’ experience in a similar role. Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency in financial modelling, forecasting, and variance analysis. Solid knowledge of IFRS, VAT Act, and Income Tax Act. DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALITIES
