9 Kaufman is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit that specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry and renal/pancreas transplant patients. 9 Kaufman is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). Staffing includes RNs, LPNs, NCPs (nursing care partners), UAs (unit ambassadors) and CSAs (clinical support associates). What we do
Procedures include vascular surgeries such as aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass and amputations. The unit is an extension of the renal/pancreas transplant team and offers outpatient transplant center support. Nurses on 9 Kaufman are trained and eligible to sit for the PCCN certification, with support to obtain it. All beds are monitored, and the unit provides exposure to a variety of telemetry cases to support learning and skill development. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, sometimes 1:5. Education Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Diploma in Nursing required. Certification/Licensure Virginia or Compact Multistate License in good standing BLS ACLS Experience Must have 2 or more years of recent acute care hospital RN experience.
