Description
JOB PURPOSE To assist the library patrons, seminary faculty and staff, and the library services team by providing routine clerical work to ensure a quality library experience for all.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist patrons in the use of the library's resources by charging/discharging items in the regular stacks, reserve books, computers, videos, and Interlibrary Loans.
Retrieve materials from the Library Annex and Remote Storage Collection as needed for research.
Assist disabled persons in the use and retrieval of library resources.
Process new materials for circulation such as books, videos, CDs, etc.
Assist in the annual binding of periodicals.
Send copies of table of content pages of selected journals to professors, as requested
Assist in the display, shelving, and filing of periodicals.
Help with the maintenance and storage of association minutes from the states for which our seminary is responsible.
Shelve books and materials as necessary to maintain an orderly library, including books, videos, tapes, etc.
Cooperate as a team member with the library staff in performing any duty essential to the achievement of efficient library operations, such as communication, troubleshooting, and decision making.
Take part in staff meetings as arranged by the Dean of Library Services.
Open and lock up library in the absence of other library personnel.
Open and distribute library mail in the absence of library secretary.
Additional tasks as assigned by library personnel
WORKING CONDITIONS
No more than twenty-nine (29) hours per week
Varying schedule including some evenings and weekends
Quiet shared space environment
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS Include, but not limited to
Christian with high integrity, actively pursuing a relationship with God
High School diploma or equivalent, required
Bachelor’s or Seminary degree, preferred
One year library experience, preferred.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including proper phone etiquette.
Able to maintain courtesy, composure and wisdom when dealing with sensitive issues and in during all contact with library patrons and fellow staff members
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Able to use library software necessary for online catalog searches, interlibrary loans, and circulation. Training is provided
Able to multi-task, analyze workload, and prioritize as necessary for the benefit of the library
Must understand the dynamics of academic and Southern Baptist life.
Strong attention to detail
Punctual and dependable work ethic
Positive attitude, with a desire and willingness to learn
Must be able to pass background screening, including driving record
Eligible to work in the United States
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequently required to sit or stand for periods of time at desk or computer station
Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
Able lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
