Job Title: Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Specialist
Classification: Paraprofessional, part-time, 10-15 hours/week
Reports to: JKM Library Director
Summary Description:
The Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Specialist manages all functions related to the circulation of the JKM Library’s materials and the library’s interlibrary loan service. Interlibrary Loan is an essential resource delivery service that provides print and digital information to students, faculty, and staff. This service is also part of two state-wide networks of libraries that share resources. This position serves as the lead representative for the JKM Library in these networks.
Circulation Duties:
Checks materials in and out using the integrated library system (ILS) and renews and reserves them for students, faculty, and staff.
Shelves books and other resources by Library of Congress (LOC) call numbers.
Help students, faculty, and staff find and use library materials, answer questions, and provide guidance regarding the circulation of materials online and in-person.
Maintain accurate records of circulation transactions and statistics. Run reports using the integrated library system (ILS).
Track overdue materials, communicate with students, faculty, and staff about overdue items.
Interlibrary Loan Duties:
Utilize the integrated library system (ILS) to process interlibrary loan requests, both borrowing and lending materials from other libraries.
Deliver requested books for students, faculty, and staff to second library location.
Process scanning requests using OCLC Article Exchange.
Manage communications with lending libraries, borrowing libraries, students, faculty, and staff in a timely manner via telephone, email, and in-person.
Maintain records of interlibrary loan transactions and statistics. Compile and prepare statistical reports on interlibrary loan activities.
Resolve any issues related to interlibrary loan requests including missing items, damaged items, and overdue materials.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Expertise in Library of Congress Call numbers and LC classification.
Knowledge of circulation and ILL practices in an automated environment; preferably of Ex-Libris Alma library software system (ILS), and OCLC WorldShare.
Ability to work and travel between multiple library locations.
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, project management, problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collegially with library and institutional colleagues.
Strong service orientation.
Aptitude for working in a rapidly changing environment.
Ability to do physical lifting of books and other materials; moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, stretching, stooping and lifting.
Education and/or Experience:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant library work experience. OR current Library & Information Science student.
