Job Objective: The Accountant plays a key role in Usona’s Finance and Accounting team, responsible for transaction processing, month-end close, account reconciliations, grant monitoring, and supporting compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards. This position partners across departments to deliver timely, accurate financial insights, while continuously improving processes through documentation, automation, and thoughtful integration of AI tools that enhance strategic, mission-driven decision-making.
Core Duties:
Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable:
Manage the end-to-end cycle, ensuring timely processing, accurate coding, issue resolution, and reconciliation. Maintain vendor profiles and process credit card expenses.
Fixed Assets:
Maintain the fixed asset ledger, depreciation schedules, and perform reconciliations for accuracy and compliance.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and journal entries to ensure cash balance accuracy.
Maintain and update schedules of prepaid expenses and other assets, with monthly amortizations and reconciliations.
Identify and record accruals, including lease liabilities, and maintain detailed schedules for reconciliation.
Restricted Fund Management:
Track and reconcile donor contributions, ensuring proper utilization, reporting, and documentation for transparency.
Analyses/Special Projects:
Work on analyses and projects as requested, exploring AI tools to enhance workflows.
Tax/Audit:
File reports, manage tax registrations, prepare 1099s, and support audits.
Internal Controls:
Develop, document, and implement internal controls to maintain a strong control environment.
Work Environment:
Demonstrate inclusion, kindness, curiosity, and respect. Incorporate Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) principles and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Key Qualifications:
3-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
Experience with QuickBooks Online and Bill.com.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and attention to detail skills.
Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Openness to adopting emerging technologies, including AI and automation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Nonprofit, Clinical Trials, or Public accounting experience.
Physical Demands:
Ability to use computer and telephone equipment.
