Basic Function The Senior Appraiser is a licensed State Certified General Appraiser, competent to appraise real estate for Farm Credit loans. The role includes handling appraisals for large or complex loans, loans in litigation, and acquired properties. The Senior Appraiser may mentor staff and may act as lead appraiser in a designated area. The position may involve informal team leadership and collaboration with Lending, Underwriting, and Operations to ensure high quality, timely service. Develops reports to management as directed and provides consulting on collateral issues. Completes appraisal reviews of in-house staff as directed.

Essential Duties

Complete real property assignments with increased autonomy and reliability.

Prepare appraisals on increasingly complex properties, including pledged collateral for large or complex loans, specialized properties, and assets in litigation or foreclosure.

Conduct appraisals using cost, sales comparison, and income approaches; determine and apply appropriate valuation methods.

Coordinate with lending management and other appraisers to prioritize assignments and manage schedules.

Search, confirm, analyze, and archive market data; maintain relationships with realtors and others for documentation.

Maintain good customer relations through ongoing communication during the appraisal process.

Prepare appraisals for outside fee customers and outside the region as directed.

Perform other non-valuation functions as assigned; moderate travel may be required.

Levels of Supervision Works with appraisal staff in coaching and peer review; reports to the Appraisal Director.

Typical Education and Experience

BA/BS in agriculture, management, business, economics, real estate, accounting, or equivalent.

Certified General Appraiser License with continuing education compliance.

Professional designation (ARA or MAI) encouraged.

Minimum of 5 years real estate valuation experience.

Regular travel within the loan servicing area; moderate travel outside the area depending on business needs.

Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

Proficiency with PC software and appraisal-related tools.

Essential Job Requirements Must perform basic office tasks, sit at a desk and computer for extended periods, and communicate effectively. Ability to drive a four-wheel-drive vehicle to inspect rural properties; physical ability to walk various terrains and navigate construction sites. Requires valid Class C driver’s license. Part-time remote/hybrid option available with some onsite requirements.

Pay Range Minimum $92,838.25 – Max $157,825.02 Annual. This range reflects national base pay and may be adjusted by location. Salary is one component of total rewards and may be adjusted based on qualifications, location, and other factors.
