Job Description
The Controller must possess solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills. This role is responsible for managing the accounting team, ensuring compliance with all financial and regulatory requirements, and providing accurate and timely reporting to support strategic decision-making. The controller will oversee full-charge accounting functions, cash flow management, project/job costing, and financial planning. Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and job cost accounting. Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and construction industry standards. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for senior management. Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes, monitoring performance against targets. Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and debt obligations. Oversee job cost tracking, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and ensure accuracy of revenue recognition. Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting. Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making. Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and professional development. Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and executives to support project profitability and company growth. Qualifications
Degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred). 7+ years of experience, preferably in the construction industry. Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Sage 300 CRE a plus). Strong knowledge of GAAP, job cost accounting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
