Overview
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA provides benefits to New Yorkers in need, including Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS works to prevent and address homelessness in New York City and helps families and individuals exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency. Information Technology Services (ITS) is DSS’s technology services organization. ITS supports the daily, emergent, and long-term needs of HRA and DHS and develops applications such as client eligibility and recertification systems, case management systems, housing and employment systems, revenue-producing computer matches, and personnel systems.
Position IT Project Specialist, to function as WMS Technical Support Specialist. The role involves developing and maintaining web applications, supporting UNIX/Linux and mainframe environments, and providing technical installation and maintenance support.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain web applications to process data input from various sources to generate SUSE Linux partition configurations, providing user access to the NYC WMS application.
Maintain web applications that manage the Cluster Control File (CCF), linking user functionality with the WMS Front-End application. Responsible for NYS ITS Unisys ES7000 Servers that support the WMS Front-End application.
Schedule 2000–3000 batch runs daily; perform Unix/Linux System Administration to support new installation and ongoing maintenance of 30,000+ devices including servers, workstations, printers that communicate with Unisys mainframes; support the Unisys IS6000 and Unisys Zephyr Utilities on the SUSE Linux server.
Troubleshoot terminal connectivity issues within the ITS Unisys mainframe environment; resolve end-user printing issues related to Unisys ES3000 print server; troubleshoot and resolve terminal and printer issues related to ATS.
Resolve gross errors in machine output and coordinate actions with NYC; operate UNISYS mainframe scheduling packages (EXCAL, OPCON); work with Unisys system processors and utilities (ECL, Secure, FAS, SSG, Editor, IPF) and publish technical documents to the NYCMETRO Intranet Site.
Train NYC WMS installation staff on using the NYCMETRO Intranet site to produce installation packages.
Hours/Shift 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the position; or
An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the position; or
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the position; or
Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of the OTDA Welfare Management system and its environment; ability to interface with HRA/DSS and NYS OTDA and consultant staff; knowledge of Linux/Unix coding to maintain the WMS Access Control File Windows interface and address security and user concerns.
