General Nature of Work

Maintain records, file deeds, contracts, and agreements for the City. Update code amendments in City records. Maintain all records, ordinances, resolutions, and occupational tax records on the city computer. Provide general zoning, building and related code information. Provide guidance in filling out various zoning applications and ensuring applicants understand the development process. Responsible for assisting the City Manager on land use issues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Answer questions regarding zoning codes, building codes and land use requirements in person and on the phone.

Provide leadership regarding the adoption of City of Kennesaw Comprehensive Plan updates as required by the State of Georgia.

Perform analysis on land use and housing issues using best practices for assembling and researching data.

Research problems and complaints regarding zoning and commercial and residential code compliance.

Make staff reports on all zoning applications.

Help process all final and preliminary plans for approval for development.

Maintain records and documents.

Prepare, maintain and store records, file and log with information related to zoning, development and plats.

Serve as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

Provide recommendations to the City Manager and Mayor and Council pertaining to development projects and policy discussions that affect development.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Knowledge of zoning codes, comprehensive planning and general land use development.

Knowledge of manual and computerized record keeping systems.

Ability to oversee the proper utilization of annual department budget.

Ability to establish effective working relationships with volunteer board members, commissioners, contractors, developers, architects, engineers, owners and the general public.

Ability to read and understand complicated plans and blueprints.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to supervise assigned staff.

Ability to use personal computer, including word processing and permitting software, calculator, pencil, ruler, copy machine, fax machine, phone, mobile or portable phone.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Real Estate, or related field; master’s degree in public or business administration or related field; minimum seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in city planning or land development; AICP certification preferred.

Physical Requirements This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.

Environmental Factors Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
