A reputable litigation firm with a strong track record in public entity defense is seeking an attorney to join its Civil Rights & Government Defense practice. This team represents municipalities, law enforcement agencies, and public officials in complex and high-stakes matters. The practice covers a broad range of claims, including civil rights, excessive force, wrongful arrest, employment-related issues, and general liability. Responsibilities: Handle cases from inception through resolution, including investigation, discovery, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation. Draft pleadings, motions, and briefs in both state and federal court. Conduct legal research and advise public sector clients on liability exposure and risk management. Attend hearings, mediations, and trials as needed. Collaborate closely with senior attorneys and clients to develop effective case strategies. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in the California Bar. 3–7 years of litigation experience (civil rights, government defense, police liability, or related areas preferred). Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Ability to manage a caseload independently and work in a collaborative team environment. Prior experience in public entity defense, §1983 litigation, or employment defense is highly desirable. The Firm Provides: Competitive compensation and benefits package.
