Overview

The Controller leads the accounting operations of Vincent Lighting Systems (VLS) with a primary focus on GAAP-based financial reporting, accuracy, completeness, and integrity. This role emphasizes historical financial reporting and internal controls, including oversight of the monthly close process, compliance, audit preparation, budgeting, and risk mitigation. This position works closely with Canterbury Capital, the parent company, to ensure consistency in accounting practices and reporting standards. While the Controller’s initial focus is rooted in accounting, the role may expand to include forward-looking finance responsibilities for those who demonstrate aptitude, interest, and capability. This role requires a clear understanding of the distinctions between accounting and finance, a commitment to maintaining the integrity of the company’s financial data, and the ability to build productive partnerships across both disciplines. Essential Functions

Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls Oversees the daily operations of the accounting function, including organizational structure, staffing, and workflow optimization Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of the general ledger and other financial records Calculates and distributes key financial and operational metrics on a monthly and quarterly basis Leads the monthly and quarterly close process, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement generation Manages accounts payable and account functions to support timely payments, collections, and consistent cash flow Executes cash management activities, including oversight of bank accounts, credit lines, and company credit card programs Prepares and distributes financial and operational reports, including updates to the chart of accounts and internal dashboards Coordinates the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget and periodic forecasts, partnership with operational leaders and Canterbury Capital Collaborates with Canterbury Capital on financial planning efforts when appropriate, including scenario modeling and multi-year forecasting for individuals with demonstrated aptitude and business insight Manages external audits by preparing required documentation and serving as the primary liaison with auditors Contributes to corporate treasury and financing initiatives in coordination with Canterbury Capital, LLC Maintains relationships with external partners such as financial institutions, insurance providers, and third-party firm vendors Supports continuous improvement initiatives in financial systems, reporting processes, and internal controls Other Functions

Performs other duties as needed to support financial operations and strategic business objectives Qualifications and Education

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field Minimum five years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including leadership roles; manufacturing or construction experience preferred Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and core accounting principles Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel Ability to interpret historical financial data and provide insights that support business decisions Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration and problem-solving Excellent communication skills with ability to convey financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences Familiarity with Lean principles and continuous improvement is a plus Demonstrated experience or strong interest in financial forecasting and long-range planning is preferred Ability to move beyond compliance-based reporting and contribute to forward-looking financial strategies Core Values

The Controller position is based in a professional office environment and requires a consistent on-site presence. The role involves extended periods of sitting at a desk, using a computer, and participating in meetings both in person and virtually. The position requires the ability to work at a computer workstation for the majority of the workday, move between offices or meeting rooms, and climb stairs to access the office area. Occasional lifting and carrying files or office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds may be required. Clear and effective communication is necessary in typical office settings, which may range from quiet, individualized workspaces to collaborative team environments. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with additional hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed to meet reporting deadlines, support audits, or address time-sensitive business needs.
