Base pay range $66,951.00/yr - $85,138.00/yr

Duties Description Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 3, SG23, the incumbent will work on the State Supplement Program (SSP) and Consolidated Data Exchange (CDX) applications. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Design, write, and maintain automated test scripts using frameworks like Selenium

Convert manual test cases into automated scripts to improve efficiency and repeatability

Develop reusable components and libraries to support scalable test automation

Execute automated test suites across multiple environments (e.g., staging, production)

Analyze test results, identify failures, and log defects with detailed documentation

Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot and verify bug fixes

Execute manual test cases based on defined test plans

Identify, document, and report bugs or inconsistencies

Collaborate with developers and QA leads to clarify issues and retest fixes

Perform regression testing after code changes

Validate functionality across different browsers, devices, or platforms

Assist in writing test cases and updating test documentation

Participate in sprint planning and QA reviews

Help maintain test environments and data sets

We Would Like a New Tester To Have

Familiarity with test automation frameworks

Strong knowledge of SQL for backend validation, data integrity checks, and API testing

Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control tools (e.g., Git)

Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking

Good written and verbal communication skills

Ability to follow test plans and document results clearly

Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast‑paced environment

Qualifications

Open Competitive: A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science.

OR: A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology.

OR: 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology.

OR: Two years of professional experience in information technology.

Promotion: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, Salary Grade (SG) 14.

Transfer: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 or Information Technology Specialist 2 Programming, G-18; OR in a title G-16 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and candidates are encouraged to apply.

Please Note

Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.

Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.

Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. It is the policy of ITS not to hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment or to sponsor non‑immigrant aliens for temporary work authorization visas or for permanent residence.

Some positions may require fingerprinting.

Some positions may require up to 25% travel and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval. Details of position(s) will be described further if you are selected for an interview.

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non‑competitive and the official probationary period will begin.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non‑competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
