The Opportunity CACI is seeking a Senior Paralegal. In this role, you will work collaboratively with teams from the USAO in both the Criminal and Civil Units to handle a variety of litigation support tasks—from basics (preparing and filing documents with courts and organizing, tracking and archiving legal documents) to more complex tasks (redacting and protecting privilege information, conducting factual and legal research, assisting in witness interviews, depositions and trial preparation by preparing binders, indexing discovery, and preparing evidentiary exhibits, and providing in-court room assistance). Responsibilities Provides a variety of legal assistance and technical work requiring specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities. Supports assignments involving the form, content, issues of legal instruments and documents, and the steps and procedures involved in processing, storing, and retrieving legal actions and information pertaining to AUSAs. Provides litigative case management; annotates deficiencies in case materials and requests further investigation by investigative personnel to correct deficiencies. Serves as contact person for assigned cases and provides information and assistance concerning status or relevant procedural issues. Compiles, organizes, and indexes discovery and evidence exhibits for trial and witness testimony; works closely with assigned attorneys to ensure materials are efficiently arranged. Provides technical assistance to attorneys with e-discovery platforms and document review systems. Produces and provides to the attorney the appropriate legal documents, information, exhibits, or witnesses at the appropriate times during court proceedings. Prepares and coordinates exhibits for trial, including charts, diagrams, photographs, and models. Depending on case complexity, personally prepares trial exhibits or coordinates preparation with others to ensure timely production prior to trial date. Maintains accounting systems for materials used as exhibits and keeps an accurate audit of exhibits in proceedings. Provides automated litigation support to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations; supports in-court activities using various software applications. Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the AUSAs, including automation support or other administrative topics. Uses established databases to perform data searches, report design, and other data retrieval tasks. Opens, maintains, and closes case files; notifies proper client agencies of service and obtains needed case information. Establishes and updates databases to track case receipts, upcoming deadlines, and other case information; keeps attorneys and staff informed of case status. Monitors pending cases and takes action to meet established deadlines. Maintains physical case files and related material in an accessible filing system; closes and archives files as appropriate. Prepares a variety of legal documents, correspondence, and related material from templates (e.g., subpoenas, liens, writs) and submits for AUSA review prior to filing. Maintains AUSAs and court calendars, schedules court reporters, witnesses, and conferences as required. Answers routine inquiries and refers more complex questions to appropriate office members while exercising judgment in information disclosure. Qualifications Requires paralegal certificate, JD, or current study at an ABA-accredited law school (at least 1 year completed) or equivalent legal training/experience; or equivalent education may be substituted. At least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project-related experience. At least one year of automated litigation support experience. Strong working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. Excellent written and oral communication skills; thorough knowledge of legal research tools (e.g., LEXIS and Westlaw). Hands-on familiarity with word processing, databases (e.g., document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems; familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures. Pay Range This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits meet or exceed the wage determination for the work location. Minimum hourly wage: $29.91. Final salary depends on location, experience, skills, and certifications.
