The Safety Specialist will facilitate the organization’s safety policies, procedures, training, guidance, and response to technical issues to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety laws and regulations. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities

Inspects the facility to identify health and safety risks; prioritizes and applies appropriate control mechanisms to address each concern. Ensures compliance (filing and overseeing) OSHA’s recordkeeping/reporting safety regulations at the federal, state, and local levels by developing new, or enhancing existing, policies and programs. Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems. Conducts new hire and monthly training on applicable safety standards, including certifications (LOTO, forklift, etc.). New hire training includes several follow-ups during the employee’s training in their production position to identify any issues with their acclimatization to VPI. Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations. Represents the Company on Safety issues which may include meeting with attorneys, state, federal regulatory agencies. Reviews accident and incident reports. Prepares and submits recommendations to Senior Management, for action plans to minimize company exposure to costs associated with Worker’s Compensation. Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections. Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company. Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics. Maintains internal communication programs and process to ensure both management’s and organization’s awareness of compliance issues, activities and federal, state and local regulatory activities that affect technical and quality compliance Manages safety and workers’ compensation programs including the accident investigation team, modifying situations to correct any related or causal issues. Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings. Ensures that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are maintained and readily accessible when needed. QMS paperwork management (Hot work, LOTO, WC & EHS) Fehr Graham interaction and/or replacement (stormwater & other environmental compliance) New material compliance (working with MHK on bringing new materials in house) Create Safety recognition program Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities

Thorough understanding of Health/Safety and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, policies and requirements. Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations as they apply to technical operations in a regulated environment Knowledge of the organization, environmental codes and the ability to identify potential loss exposure in conjunction with direction from Corporate Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to interact/engage with employees in a positive manner and communicate with all levels of management within the organization. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Understanding of technology and equipment used in environmental inspections. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Ability and willingness to accept responsibility, willingness to challenge established practices and draw relevant conclusions, including persistence and willingness to take calculated risk. Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment and/or crisis situation and render good decisions to resolve the problems, maintain safety and ensure adherence to Corporate Code of Conduct Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required. Certification in safety or industrial hygiene management preferred. Three to Five years of related experience preferred. Physical Requirements
