Immediate and Upon Board Approval Job Summary The successful candidate will possess the skills and experience to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success in girls volleyball. At the same time, the coach must be a positive role model and motivator and instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to good sportsmanship, socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. General The head coach is expected to build personal and professional relationships with administration, teachers, coaches, student athletes, and parents. The varsity head coach shall encourage student athlete development at the high school, middle school, and youth level by providing proper instruction, skill development, and strategies. The varsity coach must be knowledgeable and understand coaching and practicing rules and policies governed by the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). Duties and Responsibilities Assume overall responsibility for the girls volleyball program (high school, middle school, elementary program). Assist the Director of Athletics with the selection of and end of season evaluations for all assistants, middle school coaches, and youth coaches, as needed. Abide by all IHSAA, Great Lakes Athletics Conference, and School City of East Chicago (SCEC) rules and regulations, including but not limited to completion of all student athlete physicals, validation of eligibility, pre-season and end-of-season reporting, injury reporting and protocols, in- and out-of-season practice periods, no-contact dates, code of conduct/ethics, etc. Complete and maintain all required IHSAA and National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) coaching certification requirements. Establish team goals for the season in collaboration with the Director of Athletics. Plan and execute weekly/daily practice plans, including off-season/summer workouts/lifting sessions in accordance with IHSAA rules. Record and report inventory of equipment and needs to the Director of Athletics in advance of the season. Properly supervise the safety and conduct of participants while engaged in practices, events, and activity trips. A member of the coaching staff must be present at all times. Maintain consistent discipline, address grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation among the team and all staff. Escalate all issues immediately to the Director of Athletics for visibility. Assist the Director of Athletics with scheduling, transportation requests/confirmation, and reporting requirements for post-season tournaments or special events (i.e., senior nights or end of season banquets). Certify to drive minibuses to athletic events if district driver is not available. Perform such other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Athletics. Qualifications Valid Indiana teacher certification or coaching certification. Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program, including feeder system. Previous successful coaching or athletic experience in assigned sport. Valid Indiana driver’s license, CDL endorsement preferred. Ability to pass required school background check. Note:
