Overview

The ICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a valued member of the intensive care team who has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of critical care medicine patients. Through relationships in an interprofessional culture that supports all members of the healthcare team, the APP will demonstrate specialized skills in the care of patients and families undergoing operative and other invasive procedures. The APP coordinates involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams, practicing in a collaborative environment to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient. The provider will review the plan of care with the clinical team and participate in directing that care. The APP will ensure adherence to protocol requirements and regulatory guidelines contributing to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and leadership. They will perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures; peri-procedural services; and coordinate discharge planning to the next level of care, as applicable. Shift and compensation:

This position is majority night shift and will be given additional pay above baseline to account for the schedule burden. Experience eligibility:

Pay Rate Type: Salary Pay Grade: Health-33 Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: Night-focused shifts (12-13 hour shifts in a 4-week block; >90% nights) Hours per week: Full Time Shift Work – hours per week vary Patient Population Focus: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Patient Population Age Range: 13 years to death Qualifications

Requirements: Physician Assistant APRN — AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care NP): Adult patients (13 years to death), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent (vents, drips, monitors, etc.) 1+ years Acute Care experience as PA-C or APRN Preferred Experience:

2+ years NP experience or PA-C experience is preferred. Acute Care training and/or cardiology experience also preferred. Alternate Experience accepted: 2+ years as CCRN prior to completion of NP or PA-C accreditation 2+ years ICU RN prior to completion of NP or PA-C accreditation Degree of Supervision:

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician. Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date: Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) If applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day. Provides direct care to patients through the following activities: Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations Evaluates and treats based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results per practice guidelines Performs therapeutic procedures as permitted by privileges and proficiency, approved by the Clinical Division Chief Arterial line placement Central line placement Pulmonary artery catheter placement Chest tube removal Temporary epicardial pacing wires removal Epidural catheter removal External pacemaker application Direct current cardioversion Lumbar puncture Bronchoscopy Intubation Paracentesis Thoracentesis Interosseous access Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending or collaborating physician Documents and bills for direct care provided Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice Participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research Supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization Demonstrates commitment to professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as advanced practice provider students; facilitates learning of other new team members and APP fellows Maintains licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, and other requirements as required by policy and state law Physical Requirements

Continuous requirements: able to stand, walk, and sit; bend, kneel, climb stairs; reach in all directions; use hands and fingers with dexterity; perform repetitive motions; maintain vision 20/40 corrected; work in a latex-safe environment; lift up to 50 lbs unassisted; work in dusty or confined spaces as needed.
