Overview The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full-time in the care of patients undergoing blood and marrow transplantation (BMT) and CAR-T cellular therapy (CT). The APP will join a busy and thriving Hematology Oncology Division that includes 8 Malignant Hematologists, 6 BMT APPs and 7 Malignant Hematology APPs. This position will work in inpatient setting at night.

Job Description Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried/Exempt. Hours per week: 40.

Patient Population Focus: Inpatient along with management of acute phone calls from BMT/CT outpatients on active therapy.

Patient Population Age Range: 13 years to death.

Required Training and Experience Required Minimum Training: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.

Physician Assistant

APRN License Type/Certification:

AGACNP/ACNP

(Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner): Adult patients (13 years to death), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent (vents, drips, monitors, etc.).

Preferred Experience: prior BMT and/or Cellular Therapy experience preferred.

Degree of Supervision Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date:

BLS

ACLS

DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Job Duties Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:

Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations

Evaluates and treats based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline

Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief

Bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures

Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or collaborating physician

Documents and bills for direct care provided

Uses current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice

Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research

Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization

Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education

Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members

APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law

Precept NP and PA students

Participates in weekly tumor boards and team meetings and maintains minimum of 10 hours of BMT/CT specific education yearly to meet FACT accreditation requirements

Physical Requirements Continuous requirements to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, use hands and legs, maintain dexterity, and perform repetitive motions. Requires ability to be qualified for respirator use if required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected. Work in a latex-safe environment and indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull objects weighing 50 lbs unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force. Occasional exposure to dusty areas and confined spaces.

Additional Job Description Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and two years clinical experience required, at least one year in a specialty area of care. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the area of employment required unless a new graduate. New graduates must be certification eligible upon employment and obtain certification within six months. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse and official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Current American Heart Association BLS certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
