The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNC Charlotte is seeking a Chair/Director. The Department has a strong partnership with the College’s Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC), the School of Data Science, the North Carolina Battery Complexity, Autonomous Vehicle and Electrification Research Center (BATT CAVE), The Charlotte Aviation Innovation and Research Institute (AIR Institute), and the University AI Institute. UNC Charlotte has officially joined the top tier of research institutions in the nation with its new R1 designation. This milestone marks a transformative moment for the University, unlocking new opportunities for groundbreaking discoveries, industry partnerships, and student success. Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty are leading research and teaching in AI, robotics and automation, cloud computing, cybersecurity, wireless power transfer, electrification, digital twinning, intelligent vehicles, smart and sustainable cities, transformational energy systems, and more. The Department currently enrolls nearly 570 undergraduate and 160 graduate students and employs 36 Faculty and 6 Staff. The Department offers Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Electrical engineering students may add a concentration in power and energy systems, and students in both programs can add a concentration in machine learning. The master’s degrees in electrical engineering and computer engineering, as well as a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, are nationally ranked. Responsibilities

The Chair/Director will promote excellence in department programs within the University. Responsibilities include: Collaborative leadership and growth of departmental academic, research, and outreach activities Long-term and short-term planning, decision-making, and coordination of instruction Mentoring, supervising, and supporting faculty and staff members Supporting faculty research efforts and initiatives by fostering interdisciplinary and industry collaborations and providing resources Securing external and internal funding Improving curriculum design, including accreditation planning and review preparation Performing research and dissemination of scholarly work in relevant field(s) of expertise Teaching courses in related areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field. This tenured position is open to applicants with credentials and experience commensurate with a full professor. Preferred qualifications include a proven academic record of scholarly accomplishment, teaching, and administrative leadership in electrical or computer engineering or a related field. EEO Statement
