Analytical Research Assistant University of Maine, Orono, ME. This position supports environmental sample analysis for the Marine Water Quality Laboratory at the Darling Marine Center. The role will be based at the Darling Marine Center in Walpole, Maine, and may include fieldwork throughout the Gulf of Maine, with occasional overnight travel.

Typical hiring range for this soft‑money funded position is $50,000 to $52,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a science related field.

Basic working knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and technology.

One or more years of professional laboratory experience.

Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Demonstrated success working under strict regulatory requirements and deadlines.

Effective communication with supervisors, employees, and students.

Problem‑solving skills and adaptability to changing circumstances.

Flexibility to work a schedule that may change due to weather, equipment challenges, or client needs.

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Preferred

One or more years of experience in laboratory analyses.

Familiarity with environmental analytical chemistry principles.

Ability to travel, normally requiring a driver’s license, and may include overnight trips.
