The Penn State Police Department operates with sworn officers who have full law enforcement authority. The department headquarters is located at University Park. All interested candidates must apply to this posting to be considered for opportunities at one of the Penn State campuses. Candidates advancing through the recruitment process will be asked to indicate campus locations of interest. Starting contractual base salary is
$67,350.40 . Annual rate changes and service time increases apply. The current contract expires June 30, 2028. Responsibilities
Protect life and property and preserve peace and public order. Enhance positive community engagement and enforce laws and University policies. Conduct investigations, patrols, inspections, and deterrent enforcement. Enforce National, Federal, State, and local laws and University regulations; apprehend violators as needed. Qualifications
Skills to earn public respect through courteous, ethical service. Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and outside agencies. Ability to provide effective, honest, and credible testimony in court. Excellent customer service orientation and strong verbal/written communication, analytical, judgment, ethical decision-making, and organizational skills. Ability to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds. Respect for the constitutional rights of all individuals. Uphold high standards of conduct and comply with laws, regulations, and policies. Requirements & Screening
High school diploma or equivalent; up to one year of relevant experience. Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) Act 120 Certification required or in process during hiring; current certification or eligibility for certification during the hiring process. Knowledge of information technology, software applications, surveillance equipment, social media, and investigations is highly desired. U.S. Citizenship; must be at least 21 years of age on/start date. Background checks: BPAD, PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Check; motor vehicle records check; credit history check where applicable. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle as part of job duties. Application Process
