SHIFT Monday through Friday, 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM. Possible rotating holidays and weekends.

JOB SUMMARY Works under general supervision to perform basic laboratory procedures. Works under supervision of a qualified pathologist to perform macroscopic tissue examination.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED

Education Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.

Experience 2 years of relevant experience.

PREFERRED

Licenses and Certifications ASCP certification or equivalent.

JOB DUTIES

Transports specimens as needed to the anatomic pathology laboratory. Receives specimens in the anatomic pathology laboratory.

Accession specimens and label specimen containers with accession/laboratory numbers. Label cassettes with accession/laboratory numbers. Ensures specimen integrity upon receipt and throughout the entire process.

Assists with or performs preparation and gross examination of biopsy specimens under the supervision of a pathologist, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include:

• Verifying specimen identification and labeling accuracy upon receipt

• Retrieving and reviewing relevant clinical information, as needed, to support specimen evaluation

• Assisting with or performing the gross description and dissection of small biopsy specimens and low‑complexity tissue resection specimens

• Selecting and submitting representative tissue sections for histologic processing, including inking, measuring, and sectioning as appropriate for the specimen type

• Preparing specimens for special studies (e.g., decalcification, immunohistochemistry) under direction

• Maintaining specimen photography and documentation standards when required

Escalates non‑routine or complex specimens to the pathologists‑assistant, pathologist, or anatomic pathology supervisor/manager.

Sets up necessary equipment, supplies, and specimens for macroscopic examination.

Exhibits efficient use of time and resources. Reports for work on assigned days at assigned times. Coordinates daily tasks to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift.

Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures, such as preventive maintenance and temperature checks.

Maintains a clean and well‑organized work area and performs various clerical duties.

Adheres to CAP, CLIA, state regulations, HIPAA, safety, and OSHA regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned.
