The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to prepare and perform gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens and human postmortem examinations.
Responsibilities include:
Preparing surgical specimens for pathology gross examination through comprehensive macroscopic examination and evaluation.
Obtaining relevant clinical information and describing gross anatomic features of specimens.
Dissecting surgical specimens and preparing tissue for histological examination.
Assisting the Pathologist with rendering the provisional gross anatomic diagnosis.
Performing frozen sectioning and staining for intraoperative consultation.
Performing postmortem examinations, including external examinations, in situ organ inspections, evisceration, dissection, and recording of applicable data.
Maintaining laboratory databases and ordering supplies.
Fulfilling administrative duties, including coordination of specimen type to grossing station, accessioning specimens, and managing inventory.
Requirements:
Current certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Desirable qualifications:
Internship or shadowing or work experience as a certified Pathology Assistant in an approved Pathology Department.
