The World Equestrian Center is seeking a passionate and driven Junior Sous Chef to support our elevated Asian dining concept, White Willow. This hourly position within our Food & Beverage Division offers an exciting opportunity to grow your culinary career in a high-volume, fine dining environment that celebrates precision, creativity, and cultural authenticity.
As a Junior Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Chef de Cuisine and Sous Chef to assist in the daily operations of the kitchen. Your responsibilities will include supporting food preparation, maintain exceptional standards of quality and presentation, and help lead the line during service. You’ll also assist with kitchen cleanliness, food safety compliance, and prep scheduling.
We are looking for someone with a strong culinary foundation, ideally with experience in upscale Asian cuisine or fine dining kitchens. Primary Responsibilities
Performance: Execute with speed, accuracy, and attention to detail while supporting kitchen operations. Resolve issues efficiently and ensure guest satisfaction under pressure.
Leadership: Support training and motivation of the culinary team. Uphold cultural and core standards while maintaining team morale and productivity.
Menu Execution: Collaborate with the Chef de Cuisine to deliver seasonal and specialty menus with precision and consistency.
Financial Oversight: Assist in managing labor costs, controlling expenses, and optimizing inventory through effective prep and scheduling.
Sanitation & Safety: Ensure compliance with WEC, local, state, and federal sanitation and safety standards.
Quality Control: Monitor food quality and consistency from prep to plate, ensuring adherence to specifications.
Communication: Maintain clear communication within the kitchen and with management to ensure smooth operations.
Guest Feedback: Address guest concerns regarding food quality and service, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Event Support: Assist in executing private dining and special events that elevate the guest experience.
Inventory Management: Help manage inventory and ordering to maintain stock levels and reduce waste.
VIP Service: Support exceptional dining experiences for high-profile guests.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a culinary role, preferably with Asian cuisine or fine dining experience.
Culinary Expertise: Solid understanding of kitchen operations, equipment, and techniques.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
Innovation: Passion for culinary creativity and continuous improvement.
Leadership: Ability to mentor and support team members.
Compliance: Knowledge of labor laws and food safety regulations.
Certifications: ServSafe and Alcohol Compliance Certifications required.
Physical Requirements
Mobility: Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Endurance: Capable of working on your feet for 8+ hours.
Senses: Strong vision and hearing for kitchen communication and safety.
