Overview
Adjunct Faculty, Interpreter Training Technology-SLNG – Part-Time at Lone Star College (LSC) – North Harris campus. This role is hired on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon system needs. Classes are offered day, evening, and weekend at various times and locations. Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.
Job Description Purpose and Scope: The faculty member provides learning activities and support to achieve course objectives and contributes to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.
Responsibilities
Teaches Interpreter Training Technology courses at a variety of times and locations
Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
Meets with and advises students before/after class or by appointment, via electronic communication or other appropriate methods
Evaluates students to measure progress and informs students of their progress in a timely manner
Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
Other reasonable related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Associate's in interpreter training, deaf education, ASL, special education (with emphasis in deafness), or communications (with emphasis such as deaf education)
Associate's with certification as an interpreter or deaf support specialist
3 years nonteaching work experience in the field

Mastery of course content
Leadership skills; collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work with a wide variety of people
Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning, learning communities, and distance learning
Commitment to academic excellence and student-focused service
Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and use of technology
Ability to engage students with effective teaching strategies
Physical Abilities The work is sedentary; some walking, standing, bending, and light carrying may be required. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Schedule and Conditions
Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment
Hours vary depending on class time; instructors are required to meet scheduled classes and be available to students outside of instruction
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in interpreter training, deaf education, ASL, special education (with emphasis in deafness), or communications (with emphasis such as deaf education)
Associate's with certification as an interpreter or deaf support specialist
3 years nonteaching work experience in the field
Salary: $58.05 per contact hour.
