Department Overview The Department of Biology at UNC‑Chapel Hill is dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of new and existing knowledge in biology. With over 3,000 majors and 5,000 undergraduate students, the department offers robust graduate programs and strong research support.
Position Summary UNC‑Chapel Hill seeks two fixed‑term 9‑month teaching faculty positions to begin July 1 2026. Positions will be at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. Each position carries a teaching load of three courses per semester, primarily at the fundamental and intermediate undergraduate levels. Instructors with expertise in Anatomy & Physiology, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Ecology & Evolution, and especially Microbiology are especially encouraged to apply. New faculty members will also be expected to engage in departmental service and may have opportunities for summer teaching.
Minimum Requisite Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biology or a related field by July 1 2026
Independent college teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Expertise in any area of biology, with priority for Microbiology
Strong teaching record and commitment to undergraduate education
