Overview SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Tuesday-Saturday, 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM, on-call as needed. Pays $71,000 annually DOE. This position carries a retention payment of $3,000.00, with $1,000.00 payable at 12 months and $2,000.00 at 24 months. LOCATION: 363 Albany Street, with additional coverage at 444 Harrison Avenue, and 170 Morton Street, Boston, MA. Work is 100% onsite.
Summary of the Position The Crisis Clinician will work closely with the Shelter Clinical Services team and Shelter Operations to develop and offer trauma-informed and solution-focused interventions that promote stability, wellness and recovery, with the goal of restoring shelter environments from crisis to non-crisis as quickly and efficiently as possible. Interventions may include activation of a personal crisis plan, in-person risk assessment, referrals to respite, detox, or other inpatient settings, and coordination with emergency services personnel. The position reports directly to the Triage Clinical Supervisor and works within a team, coordinating care with Shelter and Triage Clinicians and shelter supervisors. Some on-call duties will be shared and rotated among the Shelter Clinical Services team.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement trauma-informed, solution-focused interventions to support guests in crisis and promote wellness and recovery.
Coordinate care with Shelter Clinical Services, Shelter Operations, and emergency services as needed.
Activate and monitor personal crisis plans and conduct in-person risk assessments.
Refer guests to respite, detox, or other inpatient settings when appropriate.
Collaborate with on-site and off-site clinicians and supervisors to restore shelter operations to a non-crisis state.
Qualifications Education/Training
Required: Master’s degree or higher in social work, clinical psychology, counseling, or a related field.
Currently certified in, or able to obtain, CPR and First Aid within 3 months of hire.
Advanced training in Trauma-Informed Care or Crisis Prevention Intervention, or ability to obtain such training.
Preferred
LICSW, LMHC or other qualified licensure (e.g., LCSW) or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge/Experience
Required:
Access to a personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and willingness and ability to drive to respond to on-call needs.
At least 3 years’ experience providing services to adults with mental illness, substance use disorders, and trauma-related experiences.
At least 1 year experience working with homeless populations.
Strong commitment to the right of individuals with mental health/substance use and medical needs to access stable supports and services.
Experience with recovery models and strengths-based, harm-reduction approaches.
Demonstrated expertise in risk assessments and crisis intervention techniques.
Ability to translate identified risk into crisis plans.
Proficiency in word processing and general computer skills.
Strong professional communication and organizational skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience
Experience with individuals in varied community-based settings.
Experience collaborating with medical and behavioral health staff in community-based settings.
Experience working in inpatient/outpatient crisis response settings.
