is seeking an
Onsite Behavioral Health Specialist
in
San Diego, CA , where you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and mental health of children in DHS custody along the U.S. Southwest Border.
About The Role As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will work onsite in DHS processing centers, providing trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and professional guidance to support children in federal custody. You will collaborate with facility staff, assess child well-being, and contribute to policy improvements that enhance child protection services.
Key Responsibilities Serve as a point of contact for facility staff regarding child well-being matters. Provide guidance on trauma-informed care and behavioral health interventions. Conduct facility rounds to assess child well-being and identify concerns. Support crisis intervention, de-escalation, and emergency care coordination. Assist in decision-making for complex child needs, including medical, psychological, and developmental considerations. Collaborate with CBP, HHS ORR, NGOs, and healthcare providers to coordinate care. Engage proactively with children to provide emotional support and reduce distress. Contribute to process improvements for child-friendly environments. Maintain accurate records and documentation of behavioral health support. Qualifications Master’s or Doctoral degree in behavioral health. Full, current, and unrestricted license (LCSW, LICSW, LMFT, LPC, LP). 2+ years post-licensure experience in child development, trauma-informed care, and clinical evaluations. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Experience working in multidisciplinary, team-based settings. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Why Join Us?
