Job Description The University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance seeks an established or emerging dance professional to teach undergraduate courses in dance. The teaching‑focused position in a leading public research institution calls for teaching and service as priorities. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in contemporary ballet practices, contemporary dance, and somatics, and a pedagogical practice that is evolving codified techniques. The ability to teach ballet as foundational training to support a broad range of dance practices will be considered an asset, complementing the candidate's expertise in somatics and contemporary practice. Additional areas of teaching may include jazz, improvisation, digital media, dance studies, pedagogy, or experiential anatomy/kinesiology.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate curriculum— all levels of Contemporary Ballet Practices, Contemporary Dance Practices, Dance Composition, and Ensemble courses. Typical teaching assignments for lecturers in dance are 7‑9 credits (3‑4 courses) per semester.

Develop, revise, and deliver curriculum in Contemporary Dance and Contemporary Ballet Dance Practices.

Contribute to curricular efforts in other dance‑related areas such as choreography, improvisation, dance studies, cultural studies, dance pedagogy, somatics, dance and technology, Experiential Anatomy/Dance Kinesiology, and/or production, including developing new or existing general‑education courses.

Cultivate and maintain a teaching, research, and service profile consistent with UF and unit guidelines for promotion of lecturers.

Active participation in the learning community, finding innovative ways to connect the arts to critical discourses in other disciplines.

Participate in the dance season, choreographing or providing artistic leadership for performances.

Advise BA and BFA senior projects.

Participate in shared governance through service to School, College, and University committees.

Participate in effective student recruitment, guidance, and retention.

Required Qualifications

Terminal degree (MFA, PhD, or PhD ABD) in Dance or related fields, or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience.

Record of achievement or potential for national or international excellence, aligned with the unit's promotion criteria for lecturers.

Evidence of successful collaboration and collegiality with faculty, students, and staff.

Evidence of skill in designing and facilitating academic work that advances curiosity, respect, open intellectual discourse, and the inclusion of all in an environment of complex differences.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree (MFA, PhD, or PhD ABD) in Dance.

Teaching experience of 3 to 5 years beyond graduate assistantship at the university level.

Evidence of a commitment to innovative and cross‑disciplinary curricula.

Demonstrated aptitude for working toward structural and strategic change.

Demonstrated capacity for effective engagement in recruitment.

Salary $58,000‑$63,000 for Lecturer and $63,500‑$67,000 for Senior Lecturer, based on qualifications and experience, with a comprehensive and highly competitive leave and benefits package.
