Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Responsibilities

Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. Complete specific MCPS courses for special education, including behavioral management and nonviolent crisis interventions. Support behavioral interventions in identified schools and programs. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in special education. Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education; certification in a content area is desirable. Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment as appropriate to the position. Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, and best instructional practices; familiarity with ESSA, IDEA, and related policies. Job Details
