Overview
Assists head coach in selecting, recruiting, instructing and monitoring student-athletes for Softball. Follows all rules and guidelines of the College and in accordance with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA). Responsibilities
Recruitment and Development:
Assists in recruitment of prospective student-athletes; recruit top local athletes (athletic and academic performance shall be considered); submit list of recruits for grant approval (All grants/scholarships are awarded in accordance with an approved College budget and shall be approved by the Athletic Director); assist in developing preliminary scheduling and season plan; engage in athletic program fund development; support student-athlete preparation and referral when athletic and academic transfer is the goal. Supervision and Coordination:
Assists head coach in the supervision of volunteer coaches and student-athletes (academic, practice, and games); assists in the coordination of practices, games, and team travel. Compliance and Administration:
Abide by all standards, rules, and regulations of the NJCAA and MCCAA; conform to the administrative policies of the College and the Athletic Department, including but not limited to: Travel regulations, Scholarships & Purchase orders; other duties as assigned by supervisor(s). Promotion and Support:
Foster a positive image for the College and the Athletic Department; promote and track student community service and academic performance as required by the Head Coach or Assistant Dean; refer student-athletes to appropriate College resources when support needs are indicated. Values and Mission:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position assists the head coach in supervising volunteer coaches and student athletes. CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Internal:
Frequent contact with faculty, staff, and administrators within Student Services, Health and Physical Fitness and other departments in an information-sharing capacity.
External:
Regular contact with JC students, prospective students, community members, the media, high school coaches, area Athletic Directors, college coaches, game officials, and NJCAA & MCCAA administrators. Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Associate Degree, credential, or equivalent credits from an accredited undergraduate institution is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Health Promotion, or related field preferred. Three or more years of experience serving as a coach in a college, high school or club setting required. College coaching experience preferred. Must be CPR/First Aid Certified, or able to obtain certification within 30 days of employment. Computer Skills:
Knowledge of personal computers and software including word processing, scheduling, e-mail and spreadsheets required. Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Effective oral and written communication including the ability to speak before large groups. Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, and apply concepts of basic statistics. Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical Demands
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel; the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, run, sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include the ability to adjust and focus. Work Environment
