Overview

Reporting to the Camp BB Riback Board of Directors, the Camp Director is responsible for all camp-related operations and activities, including community engagement, management of the facilities, food service, staff, and programs. This is a senior management position that partners closely with the Board of Directors on strategic priorities, long range plans, growth models, and fundraising. The primary focus areas of this role are camper enrollment and community engagement, operations, and people leadership. The Camp Director will serve as the face of Camp BB Riback in the community. This position will also lead recruiting efforts to hire and onboard a staff of 70+ seasonal employees. This person will have a meaningful impact on building the Camp BB Riback culture and community, and will be an influential voice in the future of camp. Year Round Activity Camper Recruitment & Marketing — Achieve 100% camper enrollment consisting of a mix of fully paid campers and sponsored campers. Oversee marketing efforts and family outreach initiatives to engage prospective families and extend camp’s target recruitment pools throughout Western Canada and nationwide. Create a multi-faceted marketing strategy to expand Camp BB Riback’s brand recognition, recruit new campers, and attract new donors. Oversee brand development activities including website design, social media, newsletters, Jewish community and alumni engagement, local events, donor outreach, and the creation of sponsorship pitch materials and impact reports. Camp Operations Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and supervision of a diverse team of staff members, including assistant directors, camp counsellors, program coordinators, and administrative staff. Meticulously manage compliance requirements of national, provincial, local and the Alberta Camping Association agencies to ensure constant good standing. Oversees annual audit process. Oversee the maintenance staff and physical premises of camp. Work with the Board and maintenance staff to manage capital projects and maintenance upkeep of the property. Collaborate with the Board and staff on summer programming and operating schedules to ensure the organization remains competitive and attractive while balancing the organization’s rich history of tradition. Be the face of Camp BB Riback, representing its rich history and esteemed reputation to campers, parents, alumni, Board members, and communities across Canada and beyond. Seasonal Activity Oversee youth summer camp operations for 200+ kids in 2 sessions from July-August, as well as additional camp activities or rentals during the summer season (May – end of August). Coordinate logistics and set up the site to accommodate the needs of activities. Lead a team of seasonal staff members including housekeepers, maintenance workers, kitchen crew, medical personnel, assistant directors, program leaders, and counsellors. Oversee general appearance and upkeep of camp facilities. Ensure safety and cleanliness of grounds at all times. Partner with maintenance teams to make repairs. Conduct routine inventory and procurement of supplies. Work with infirmary staff to manage camper records and log incident reports. Oversee all camp program related travel for participants and camp staff. Responsible for opening and closing of camp, equipment upkeep, records management, and end-of-season reporting. Fundraising & Development Build and strengthen relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate partners to grow the camper sponsorship program. Develop and execute fundraising plans to strengthen relationships with existing donors and engage new donors within Camp BB Riback’s alumni network. Oversee the writing, submittal, and follow-up of grant applications. Establish sponsorship evaluation criteria for determining whether campers qualify for tuition sponsorship at differing levels. Create a consistent and bias-free process for evaluating applications and maintaining appropriate records. Nonprofit Business Operations Identify innovative strategies to unlock new revenue opportunities and strengthen the long-term financial health of the organization. Partner with the Board to develop strategic plans which include annual budgeting, capital planning, and visioning for programs and site upgrades. Drive financial results in accordance with the annual budget and revenue targets. Manage core business functions, including financial record keeping, HR, payroll, vendor management, office operations, insurance, camp store, and camper funds. Oversee the systematic approach to database management for campers, alumni, and donors. Serve on Board of Directors committees and act as a liaison between the Board and employees to communicate the messaging and priorities of the organization. $competitive Requirements

Must be able to live onsite at camp in Pine Lake, AB from about middle of May until the end of August, and reliably commute throughout the year as needed. 4+ years of year-round leadership experience in a nonprofit organization or camp setting. Residential camping experience preferred. 2+ years of people leadership managing a large team. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK IN CANADA Experience with business operations & administration. Proven track record in fundraising / nonprofit development. Knowledge of facilities maintenance and food service operations is an asset. Knowledge of camp management systems is an asset.
