Responsibilities and role The Route Sales Representative (RSR) is responsible for the ordering, sales, delivery, and merchandising of a slate of nationally- and locally branded fresh baked products and developing relationships with customers' managers and other personnel. The position is assigned to a company route to service retail customers, restaurants, and institutions with the goal of maximizing sales opportunities by meeting customer expectations and following established best practices. The role drives incremental sales by executing market programs while exceeding customer expectations.
Position may require service to accounts during customer designated service windows, which may include non-traditional business hours, weekends, or holidays. The incumbent should be eager to gain industry knowledge and learn the skills necessary for success.
Position Responsibilities
Act as a sales associate and delivery driver to drive retail and territory sales
Leverage internal sales data and company marketing plans to drive growth with customers through proper planning, ordering, and execution
Establish and maintain strong customer relations to communicate sales solutions and improve satisfaction
Order product using an online state-of-the-art order planner to ensure customers receive the freshest product
Increase sales through shelf space expansion and in-store promotions and displays
Adhere to the assigned route structure, stop sequence, and service times to drive efficiency and ensure consistent service
Follow retailer/account standard operating procedures, including check in/check out and service windows
Adhere to fresh market policy by rotating product and removing damaged or out-of-code product as necessary
Follow shelf-life cycle of each brand/product
Maximize shelf life with proper rotation and ensure backstock is stocked before next fresh delivery
Perform daily route settlement: verify product quantities, invoice accounts, and follow cash collection policy
Perform an accurate weekly inventory in the handheld device at select accounts on designated days
Support introduction of new products to the marketplace based on retailer playbooks and gain shelf space and promotional displays
Obtain authorization from accounts' key decision makers for promotional displays and maximize consumer exposure
Review weekly route analysis to identify voids and sales opportunities
Review key performance indicators to reduce cost and drive sales
Adhere to required customer shelf schematic/plan-o-gram to meet brand team objectives
Master the best practices of the RSR training program
Must be able to obtain DOT medical certification to drive a CMV
Must meet Fleet insurance guidelines related to MVR
Perform all daily vehicle inspections, maintain vehicle records, report maintenance issues, and complete logs as required
Safely operate a vehicle with GVWR over 10,000 pounds
Adhere to all company, DOT, local and federal regulations
Maintain a clean and organized workspace and vehicle
Secure and organize inventory to prevent damage
Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures (Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity, Harassment, Sarbanes-Oxley, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications Minimum of 1 year related experience in retail sales, DSD sales, and/or business-to-business sales
Essential Job Requirements High school diploma or GED
