Overview We are seeking a dedicated and certified Asbestos Abatement Specialist to join our environmental services team. The Asbestos Abatement Specialist will be responsible for safely removing and disposing of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) from buildings and structures. This role requires strict adherence to safety regulations, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Planning:

Conduct thorough inspections to identify asbestos-containing materials.

Develop abatement plans that comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

Estimate project timelines and resource requirements.

Abatement Procedures:

Set up containment areas and decontamination units according to safety standards.

Use specialized tools and equipment to safely remove asbestos materials.

Employ wet methods and HEPA vacuuming to minimize asbestos fiber release.

Encapsulate or enclose asbestos materials when removal is not feasible.

Safety and Compliance:

Follow all OSHA, EPA, and local regulations regarding asbestos handling and disposal.

Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, suits, and gloves.

Monitor air quality before, during, and after abatement activities.

Maintain accurate records of asbestos removal activities and disposal manifests.

Waste Management:

Properly package and label asbestos waste for transportation.

Coordinate with licensed disposal facilities to ensure safe and compliant disposal.

Ensure all waste handling documentation is completed and filed correctly.

Communication and Reporting:

Communicate with clients and team members about project status and safety measures.

Prepare detailed reports on abatement activities, including findings, procedures, and outcomes.

Provide recommendations for ongoing asbestos management and monitoring.

Qualifications

Experience:

Minimum of 1 year of experience in asbestos abatement or a related field.

Demonstrated expertise in asbestos removal techniques and safety protocols.

Certifications:

Asbestos Worker/Supervisor certification as required by state regulations.

Additional certifications in hazardous materials handling or environmental safety preferred.

Skills:

Strong understanding of asbestos-related health hazards and safety precautions.

Proficiency with asbestos abatement equipment and procedures.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow complex safety protocols.

Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, supervisors, and regulatory agencies.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift heavy objects, wear protective gear for extended periods, and work in confined spaces.

Capability to work in various environmental conditions, including heights and potentially hazardous areas.

Other:

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
