Responsibilities

Perform day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department following current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long term care and assisted living facilities. Follow established policies and procedures as directed by the Administrator to assure the facility is clean, safe, and comfortable. Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical. Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning in resident living and/or recreational areas. Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner. Sweep, buff, and mop floors; dust and polish furniture or equipment; vacuum carpets and drapery; sanitize sinks, toilets, tubs, and shower areas; clean mirrors and lighting fixtures; replenish paper products and wastebasket liners; remove trash regularly. Maintain housekeeping cart and utility closets in sanitary and orderly condition; replenish cart supplies at end of shift. Inform supervisor of supply or equipment needs; keep storage areas locked and supplies stored properly. Report damaged or loose fixtures or equipment and conditions conducive to pests; wash and sanitize resident rooms after discharge; may strip beds and linens for washing. Wear and/or use safety equipment when lifting or moving heavy objects; follow proper chemical mixing techniques; maintain confidentiality of resident information. Demonstrate passion for caring through interactions with coworkers, residents, families, and visitors; perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education On-the-job training provided

Work Environment

Works in all areas of the facility Moves intermittently during working hours; subject to interruptions Interacts with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies; may be exposed to hostile or emotionally upset individuals Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily if necessary Subject to call back during emergency conditions; attends ongoing educational programs Exposure to dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants; may involve handling hazardous chemicals

Physical and Sensory Requirements

Must relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset individuals Must meet general health requirements, including a mental and physical examination Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift at least 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet, and carry such weight up to 50 feet May assist in resident evacuation during emergencies
