Correctional Officer, Columbia River Correctional Institution (Portland) The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking candidates for an entry level Correctional Officer role at the Columbia River Correctional Institution in Portland. DOC offers many positions across Oregon with multiple locations. If you are interested in additional locations, you will need to apply to announcements specific to that facility. Responsibilities

Set limits, model appropriate behavior, and assist in facilitating positive change in the lives of adults in custody (AIC). Work as part of a team to maintain order, enforce rules and regulations, and monitor activities and work assignments. Conduct cell checks and searches for contraband; settle disputes; enforce discipline; and observe, inspect, and report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards as routine tasks. Attend the Basic Corrections Course (BCC) and begin earning a paycheck during training; on-the-job training is provided. Participate in a probationary period during the first year with training, classroom instruction, online courses, fitness classes, force skills training, and Field Training Evaluation Program (FTEP); BCC is DPSST-certified. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED Be 21 years of age or older United States citizen Meet DPSST Physical Standards Reading comprehension, report writing, and retention abilities Satisfactorily complete an ODOC background investigation (OAR 259-008-0015) Special Qualifications

Pass NTN test with a minimum score of 70 percent in all areas Good employee work history; no prior disqualifying conduct History of law-abiding behavior (OAR 259-008-0070) Pass psychological evaluation and risk assessment as required by HB 2936 No evidence of substance abuse Proficient using computers; valid driver's license All applicants and employees are subject to drug testing Required And Requested Skills

The National Testing Network (NTN) affects the evaluation with dimensional ratings. The following attributes are reviewed: Good ratings: teamwork, ability to take control of situations, collaboration with management goals, integrity, and communication with staff Acceptable ratings: grammar and understanding of written content Low risk ratings: professionalism with offenders, constructive conduct, and public safety experience In the Work Experience section of your application, include dates and duties for all relevant positions to demonstrate how you meet these attributes. If education or work experience does not meet the minimum qualifications, you may not be considered for the position. Free testing vouchers may be obtained by contacting odocjobs@doc.oregon.gov. Do not apply for a Correctional Officer position on NTN; apply via the agency announcement. Do not schedule an ORPAT; CORPAT is administered during the BCC. DOC will review and process your application. Criminal history check will be performed via LEDS, NCIC, DMV, and other sources. Before interview, complete electronic Statement of Personal History (eSOPH) within 14 days. Provide the required topics for the past ten years. DOC will contact you to complete the background investigation. If selected, you may be required to pass a pre-employment medical exam and psychological evaluation per DPSST requirements. Requirements for employment include CJIS fingerprint-based background checks and CJIS eligibility. Some felony convictions may disqualify applicants.
