Research Topic and Significance The primary focus of this postdoctoral position is the development and validation of an optimization-based decision-support model aimed at sizing and operating a reusable-container pool for a Whirlpool refurbishment center. Project Details The postdoctoral researcher will work predominantly with Dr. Monireh Mahmoudi at the MSU School of Packaging and Dr. Leandro Coelho at Université Laval. The appointment is for one year, beginning in January 2026. Candidate Profile Ideal candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and attributes: A PhD (or near completion) in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Applied Mathematics. Strong technical skills in linear programming (LP) and mixed-integer programming (MIP); experience with stochastic or robust optimization is a plus. Proficiency with optimization solvers such as Gurobi and/or CPLEX. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement data and modeling workflows in Python or R. A solid foundation in supply chain or logistics concepts, with a strong interest in sustainable operations and the circular economy.
