The teaching assignment will include general chemistry and courses in the successful candidate's specialty. It is expected that the successful applicant is committed to quality undergraduate teaching, continued scholarly activity, and service to the University. Candidates with an interest in and ability to pursue scholarly projects with undergraduate students are preferred. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual selected. Anticipated hiring ranges: Assistant Professor: $97,788 - $107,628; Associate Professor: $112,500 - $118,524. The candidate will consider using creative lecture and laboratory teaching approaches that include current and emerging technologies to enhance student learning and will participate in scholarly practices such as peer-reviewed research, conference presentations, and grant development that leads to publication. Responsibilities Teach general chemistry and courses in the candidate’s specialty. Engage in scholarly activity and undergraduate student-focused research. Contribute to service to the department, college, and university. Required Qualifications A Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry, or a related field, required prior to the start date. Open focus of research specialization across all areas of chemistry. Experience and commitment to student-centered learning and collaborative work in multidisciplinary settings. Proficiency in written and oral English. Evidence of (or potential for) high-quality teaching and research with students. Evidence of (or potential for) scholarly productivity. Evidence of (or potential for) promoting well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the department. Ability to work with a diverse population in a respectful, collaborative, inclusive environment. Preferred Qualifications Preference for applicants who specialize in chemical education research and applications. Experience teaching lecture and laboratory courses at the university level is desirable but not required. Expertise in an area compatible with or broadening the department’s research activities. Experience supervising student research. Experience in pedagogical and/or curricular development. Special Conditions The position is subject to a mandated reporting requirement under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. Compliance with CSU Executive Order 1083 is required. A background check is required after a conditional offer of employment, with satisfactory completion before start. Note: an individualized assessment of relevant criminal history will be used. Current employees offered campus positions will be required to undergo a background check where required by law or designated as sensitive. Cal Poly is smoke and tobacco-free.
