Posted Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 4:00 AM Kaman Air Vehicles Quality Department is seeking an eager, efficient and performance-driven Materials Lab Technician to work under the general direction of the Manager, Quality Assurance with minimum supervision. RESPONSIBILITIES Daily activities include but are not limited to: Work under general direction of supervision to perform test functions for initial qualification, requalification, and acceptance of material in accordance with accepted company and customer specifications. Execute tests such as climbing drums, lap shears, short beam shears, flexures, resin contents, wedge tests, tensile and others as necessary to ensure material is qualified for use in the production process. Maintain safety awareness of chemical handling and operation of lab equipment. Obtain samples from various chemical processing tanks weekly for titration testing to an external provider. Perform etch rate testing on various chemical process samples. Administrate the outsourcing of tests not performed on site by ensuring timely and accurate data from the external provider. Test adhesives, paints, composites, epoxies, and other related materials for shelf life and continued usability. Use of Thermal Mechanical Analyzer for glass transition testing. Use of Tinius Olsen for material stress testing in compression and tension. Use of Instron for climbing drum peel test, lab shear and other similar testing. Use of a Brookfield viscometer to check materials viscosity. Use of a hardness tester to measure the Rockwell hardness of items. Maintain all records per Kaman procedures. Knowledge of ASTM and other related specifications as applicable to materials testing. Eagerness to improve processes. Other duties to assist the team as necessary. Education / Background College degree in material science or another related field is preferred. 3-5 years’ experience in materials testing.
