AnimalKind, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and no-kill cat shelter in the Hudson Valley, is seeking a compassionate and experienced *part-time Veterinarian* to lead our medical team. This role offers the opportunity to work within a mission-driven organization committed to advancing animal welfare and expanding access to veterinary care in underserved communities.
*About AnimalKind* Since 2000, AnimalKind has been a trusted resource in the Hudson Valley for rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of stray, abandoned, injured, and abused cats and kittens. Our programs include: * High-quality, low/no-cost spay/neuter
* Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives
* Basic veterinary services for cats and some dogs
* A community pet food pantry
* Adoptions and foster programs We have recently launched a capital campaign to develop a *state-of-the-art veterinary facility*, expanding our capacity to serve both animals and families in need. *Position Summary* The part-time (24 hours per week) Veterinarian will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of clinical care, including diagnosis, treatment, surgery, and prevention. The role requires leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration with a dedicated medical and administrative staff. Upon completion of our new medical facility, this position is likely to become full-time and include a comprehensive benefits package. *Key Responsibilities** Perform physical examinations, diagnose conditions, and develop comprehensive treatment plans for cats (and a limited number of dogs).
* Conduct surgical procedures including high-volume spay/neuter, soft tissue, and select orthopedic surgeries.
* Prescribe and administer medications, vaccinations, and preventive care.
* Interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory results.
* Maintain accurate, thorough, and compliant patient medical records.
* Provide medical oversight and establish/implement standard operating procedures.
* Communicate effectively and compassionately with pet guardians regarding care plans and outcomes.
* Mentor veterinary staff and ensure high standards of patient care and safety.
* Participate in community outreach, education, and professional development. *Qualifications** Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) from an accredited institution.
* Valid New York State veterinary license (or ability to obtain prior to start).
* Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in a shelter, high-volume practice, or similar environment preferred.
* Demonstrated surgical proficiency, including spay/neuter and general procedures.
* Experience working with feral or community cats is advantageous.
* Strong organizational and team leadership skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a client- and patient-centered approach.
