Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Major Responsibilities:

Essential duties include performing pipe stress analysis of systems in accordance with ASME B31.3 Code.

The stress work includes the modeling of the piping systems to verify piping flexibility, stability, and qualification of equipment nozzle loads.

Work closely with layout personnel and pipe support engineers to deliver a quality and cost-effective design. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and vendors as required.

Working knowledge of dynamic analysis and ASME B31.3 or B31.1 Codes.

Evaluates, selects, and applies standard plant design and piping engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.

Participates in reviews and recommends approval of design drawings and data for compliance with requirements.

Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions.

Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques, and/or difficult coordination requirements.

Coordinates plant design engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Grade 25: Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

Grade 26: Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Must be a US citizen.

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment, education, and travel.

IT certification or PE registration preferred.

Working knowledge of dynamic analysis and ASME B31.3 or B31.1 Codes.

Prior experience using pipe stress analysis program Bentley AutoPipe.
