Overview
Engineer IV - Studies Mortenson is currently seeking an experiencedDesign Engineer V – Time Domain Power Studies Focus, responsible for a broad range of detailed engineering designs for high voltage substation, collection, and transmission projects through 500 kV. You will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate the overall design package and requirements. The main focus of this position will be time domain simulations including TOV and Harmonics using software PSCAD. Even though the emphasis is on time domain simulations, the engineer is expected to have experience with phasor domain simulations, using software including ETAP, PSSE, and PSCAD.
Responsibilities
Minimum 10+ years of related work experience in system studies, with 4+ years focusing on time-domain simulation
Responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate the overall design package and requirements
Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria by using judgment in making adaptations and modifications and providing interpretations and conclusions with support from other Engineers
Interface and present to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision-makers, project teams, etc.)
Perform data analysis and basic engineering calculations required for designs from low voltage through 500 kV substations
Assist with the review and approval of equipment vendor drawings and test reports on equipment from manufacturers
Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction
Mentor, coach and develop junior teammembers
Assists higher and lower-level engineers in the completion of large complex projects
Support studies methodology development that shape analysis practices aligned with our customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice standards
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projects
Verify that construction agrees with electrical engineering design drawings
Assist in the implementation and development of a QA/QC process
Assist in the development and evaluation of the technical requirements for procurement and construction packages
Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions
Experienced in electrical power engineering theories and principles
Experienced in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to travel up to 10%.
Qualifications
Professional Engineering (PE) certification
Strongly preferred Masters or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related Engineering program
PSCAD, Harmonics and Power Studies experience.
Strongly preferred degree is from a school of engineering with ABET accreditation as a professional engineering curriculum

The base pay range for this role
is $106,600 - $159,900. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
