Mortenson Mortenson is seeking an experienced Design Engineer V – Time Domain Power Studies Focus with responsibilities spanning detailed engineering designs for high voltage substation, collection, and transmission projects through 500 kV. The role emphasizes time domain simulations (e.g., TOV and Harmonics) using PSCAD, with experience in phasor domain simulations using ETAP, PSSE, and PSCAD. Responsibilities
Minimum 10+ years of related work experience in system studies, with 4+ years focusing on time-domain simulation Coordinate the overall design package and requirements with other engineering and design team members Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and criteria, providing interpretations and conclusions with support from other engineers Interface and present to multiple stakeholders (e.g., customer decision-makers, project teams) Perform data analysis and basic engineering calculations for designs from low voltage through 500 kV substations Review and approve equipment vendor drawings and test reports on equipment from manufacturers Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction Mentor, coach and develop junior team members Assist with large and complex projects alongside higher and lower-level engineers Support methodology development for studies aligned with customer requirements and Mortenson best practices Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to deliver design projects Verify construction aligns with electrical engineering design drawings Assist in implementing and developing a QA/QC process Assist in developing and evaluating technical requirements for procurement and construction packages Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions Demonstrate strong communication skills (written and oral) Travel up to 10% Qualifications
Professional Engineering (PE) certification Strongly preferred Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent) PSCAD, Harmonics and Power Studies experience ABET-accredited engineering program preferred Locations
