The Community College system offers two-year liberal arts degree programs as well as occupational and technical programs for a diverse population. The Colleges provide an instructional environment conducive to successful learning experiences, and support through the Tutor in the Academic Center of Excellence (ACE) in a Connecticut Department of Correction facility as part of the Second Chance Pell program. In the ACE, the Tutor provides tutorial services to students in small groups at a Connecticut Department of Correction facility where classes and tutoring sessions are held. Responsibilities
Providing group tutoring. Assisting students in carrying out assignments, including supplemental instruction in the academic discipline being taught. Observing and providing information to faculty on student performance and on those requiring special instruction. This posting includes qualifications, experience and skills but is not limited to the full specifications stated in the job description. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in the assigned academic field or a closely related field with one (1) or more years of related teaching and/or tutoring experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training to carry out the position's essential duties. Incumbents must have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: Experience in tutoring and basic instruction in the assigned academic discipline. Knowledge of principles and concepts of the assigned academic discipline. Experience supporting students in academic goal setting and career planning. Current assigned academic disciplines:
English & Mathematics Candidates must possess proven ability to work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. Experience with reflective, interactive, culturally responsive pedagogical teaching techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong information technology literacy (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.). Special and Preferred Qualifications
Special Requirements:
Incumbent must undergo a complete Department of Corrections background check, attend a 3-hour VIP safety and security training, and complete a Site Sense orientation for the facility where tutoring will occur. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with faculty and staff across departments or divisions. Ability to provide academic support via video conferencing. Two (2) years of relevant teaching and/or tutoring experience. Bilingual (Spanish). Prior experience using TutorTrac and Blackboard LMS (not all colleges require this). Salary
